LBS（Location-Based Services），適地性服務是一種以位置為基礎提供的行動服務，早期主要應用於特定的緊急救援或外勤人員的管控，隨著全球衛星定位系統(GPS)手機及可攜式導航裝置的普及，加上行動網路與GPS結合的輔助式GPS(AGPS)，可以提供精確的行動定位功能，逐漸進入大眾消費市場。
LBS的主要應用：尋找鄰近資訊、行人導航、汽車導航、人身安全、人員與車隊管理、社群交友、區域廣告及折價券推播等，GPS導航只是最常見的應用之一。
以上是我找的有關LBS的基本解說，因為原來提供的原文，閱讀上有障礙，所以我上網去搜尋一些有關於LBS的解說，並加上自己心得。
我認為像是有些地區性促進觀光也可以利用LBS，讓民眾在進入該地區時及時收到訊息，以達到宣傳效果。
以我個人經驗，之前在市區逛街時，就曾經收過簡訊，內容是某家店的宣傳廣告，當下，就想起上課介紹過的LBS，加上前些日子看新聞有提到國外開始應用LBS，經過街道時會立即提供每家店的介紹及優惠訊息，不過有人擔心隱私問題，但我認為，只要做好加密動作，應該不會有太大問題，畢竟我覺得，就算有機會外漏資料，也比台灣的詐騙集團要弱的多了。
回到主題，現在新型手機大部分都有GPS，就算沒有GPS，也能利用基地台(Cell-ID 是全球使用的識別碼，每個基地台都有一個唯一的ID)來做定位。
現在不管NOKIA、SONY又或者是GOOGLE，都在積極的開發程式輔助LBS的應用，例如說google map在手機使用上面，雖然導航效果有限，但是在當下需要地圖時，有AGPS輔助下，定位快速，可以馬上知道附近路名，可是在山區就有可能會有誤差了。
在未來跟環境的互動上可以更加密切，例如踏入我們學校，可以收到全人通識活動或表演的訊息，又或者踏入學校圖書館，會通知書籍紀錄等等，行動通訊的功能可以更多樣化，讓手機不再只是聯絡或遊戲的工具，而是更有人性的隨身管家。
